Table for AtePodcast1 Comment

I see food, then I eat it! Classic….

People seem to have a love/hate relationship with seafood. Does it have to do with what part of the country you live in? Is it the smell? Or do we just not trust the mysteries of the sea? Whether it’s fried, raw or, sigh, sous vide, we’re talking all things fish.

  1. My first memory of eating fish was at my grandmother’s house, aged about four or five. It was Captain Birds Eye¹ fish fingers on Hovis² wholemeal bread with Heinz salad cream³. I remember thinking of my pet goldfish while eating it, which made me cry. But then they allowed me to stand inside the (full) top-loading washing machine while I ate it — I have no idea why — and that made me happy again. I’ve liked fish ever since.

Nowadays I try to choose a fish dish when dining out, as I rarely cook it at home.

But what really grinds my gears is when restaurants try to “reinvent” fish and chips. It’s just not necessary. Don’t serve me polenta chips, potatoes are fine. Don’t stack my chips like a game of Jenga. Definitely don’t serve them to me in a fancy miniature shopping cart.
